Victorian Crowned Pigeons 維多利亞冠鳩
The Victoria Crowned Pigeon is a very distinctive looking pigeon found in New Guinea, one of the largest pigeon in the world. It is distinguished from other pigeons by their bright bluish-gray plumes and an ornate fan-like crown. They are ground dwelling, walk with an unhurried gait along the forest floor. Males and females look almost identical.
Its name commemorates the British monarch, Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.
The most pressing threat to Crowned pigeons is continuing habitat loss due to logging, also illegal animal trade, hunting for their plumes and meat.
