Hong Kong is beautiful and splendid. However, behind the prosperity lie the severe problems of air and light pollution. How are the animals in the city suppose to survive? In Hong Kong, sparrows are everywhere. They are our neighbours. By natural instinct, they evolved from eating worms and seeds to eating the kitchen left-overs thrown out by people. They are always working hard on the ground, busy picking up edible things. They should really be awarded The Grand Bauhinia Medal for their contributions in cleaning up Hong Kong. In some southern cities of China, sparrows have already disappeared completely. Is urban development an excuse to sacrifice nature? Being a Hong Konger, I do not want an empty shell of prosperity. I wish to stay in harmony with my neighbours.

香港－美麗而璀璨，繁華背後的空氣問題和光害問題嚴重。城市中的動物該如何自處？
在香港，麻雀總是無處不在。我們的鄰居，從天性捕蟲吃種子，進化到進食人類丟棄的殘羹冷炙，他們總是埋頭苦幹地撿拾地上可吃的東西，其清潔香港之功，實應獲頒大紫荊勳章。
在中國南方的一些城市，麻雀經已消聲匿跡。城市發展是否犧牲大自然的藉口？
作為香港人，我不願當繁榮璀璨的空殼，更盼望和鄰居們好好相處。
