Coronation of Sparrows in Mexico City 加冕 - 墨西哥麻雀
These 3 paintings are dedicated to the hard-working sparrow parents in Mexico City, a great model for all sparrows living in other cities of the world.
New research from a team of scientists in Mexico City discovered that sparrows use cigarette butts for nesting, up to 48 cigarette butts are found in a nest. The nicotine and other chemicals in discarded filters act as pesticide that repels mites and polyester fiber help keeping birds warm.
Birds in wild use plants and herbs for nesting. Urbanization reduces natural resources for nesting and sparrows adopt this challenge by transforming the urban wastes into nesting resources.
However, cigarette butts contain many toxic substances. Those chemicals are in contact with the sparrows and their babies. And the toxicity may counterbalance the benefits.

墨西哥城的科學家研究發現，墨西哥麻雀用煙頭築巢，在巢內最多可找到48個煙頭。丟棄的煙頭含尼古丁和其他化學物質可作為殺蟲劑，驅趕蟎蟲。其纖維物料為鳥巢保溫和防水。
在野外，鳥類會取新鮮的驅蟲植物來築巢，城市化減少了鳥類築巢的材料，麻雀成功跨越障礙，把城市垃圾轉化為牠們的築巢資源。
然而，煙蒂中含有大量的有毒物質，麻雀父母和雛鳥長期在巢裡接觸這些化學品，其潛在危險不可預計。
